Grunge

Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam

Grunge is a form of hard rock music that came to prominence in the early 1990’s.  Bands run the gamut from the punk and noise rock influenced Nirvana to the southern rock influenced Pearl Jam.  Grunge would have major effect on the most popular forms of heavy metal in the 1990’s and 2000’s including nu metal and *metal.

Bands include Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, and Mother Love Bone

Post-Grunge

Post-grunge took the sound of grunge and cleaned it up to create a more polished sound.   The Eddie Veddar type vocals remained, but with a bit more harmony. Gone was the noise rock dissonance of Nirvana, but the simple punk influenced song structures remained.  Post-grunge mixed with nu metal and hard alternative would lead to the birth of the commercially successful *metal.

Bands include Foo Fighters, Candlebox, Bush, and Silverchair
