Hard Rock was created in the late 1960’s with influences from blues rock and The British Invasion. The genre used a heavy blues scale, soaring guitar solos, and higher pitched vocals that sometimes bordered on screams. This was the last piece in the birth of root metal. The genre also brought about the emergence of the energetic front man, which would influence metal bands like Iron Maiden and Guns N’ Roses. This genre was also a huge inspiration in the creation of glam metal.
Southern rock was an offshoot of 1970’s hard rock that added elements of country music to the heavy blues sound. It was a major influence on the creation of southern metal, crust punk, and groove metal.
