Oderus Urungus

GWAR’s Oderus Urungus Died of an Accidental Heroin Overdose

I didn’t want to believe it. The ugly thought would poke its nose through the door of my conscious mind and I would slam it shut. Dave Brockie’s death was unexpected. “Heart attack,” I told myself. “Stroke, not drugs.” Randy Blythe spoke his thoughts about Dave’s death, which you can read here. For me, I’d heard too many awesome stories from my friends about Dave to give the vile speculation much consideration. From what I’d been told, he always came by to say “hello” to the lads in the other bands. He was friendly and sociable. He never got above himself and he was wickedly creative and fun to be around. So when the toxicology report came back, when the awful truth was revealed, my heart was crushed just a little. Oderus, oh, Mr. Urungus, I want to remember you forever reading “Goodnight Moon.” Rest in Peace.

Broken Bones Not a Tour Breaker for ARCH ENEMY’s Alissa “I’m a Stubborn Fuck” White-Gluz

arch-enemy-you-will-know-my-name-music-video

After a tumble into a riser on stage, Arch Enemy’s Alissa White-Gluz revealed that she had sustained a compound fracture to one rib and bruising to a few more in addition to bad bruising to her head, arms, and legs. After some x-rays, blood tests, and ultrasounds, the compound fracture appears to be the only serious damage. White-Gluz says the fractured rib is aligned well to heal back in place. Bruised ribs are painful by virtue of moving at all times during that pesky process we know as breathing. As a vocalist delivering powerful growls that require an epic diaphragm, as well as eschewing pain medication, I must give a two-handed, horned salute to White-Gluz for being so freakin’ metal. \m/\m/ White-Gluz  posted her thanks to all of Arch Enemy’s fans wishing her a speedy recovery.

Jon Schaffer of ICED EARTH Needs Neck Surgery: Summer Tours Cancelled

iced earth

In an apology directed to fans, Iced Earth‘s Jon Shaffer explained his need to undergo invasive neck surgery about four months earlier than planned. The surgery was scheduled for September of this year during the band’s break. Once the surgery, and recuperation, is complete, Iced Earth plan to return to work. Metal Descent wishes Shaffer a successful and restorative procedure.
