The 25 Best Thrash Albums Of All Time
Check out our latest list of The 25 Best Thrash Albums of All Time. The list is refreshingly different than most of the ones currently out there and our pick for number one may just surprise you!
UPON A Missing BURNING BODY
On their Facebook, Upon A Burning Body announced, “Danny Leal (singer of Upon A Burning Body) has been reported missing. He was last seen in his home town of San Antonio TX on Monday, June 30th.” After posting a couple of ominous tweets (Twitter, really?), there has allegedly been no word from him. Ash Avildsen, CEO of Sumerian Records, label for band, announced on Facebook that he was not pleased about what he considers a publicity stunt to promote the band’s forthcoming album The World Is My Enemy Now (release date: August 12th). The whole thing is hinky. As a real life event it’s frightening but as a publicity stunt, it’s sociopathic. What do you think about this unsettling trend of people using traumatic events to garner interest in their social media and brand?
AVENGED SEVENFOLD Drummer Calls Lars Ulrich The Best
Avenged Sevenfold’s drummer Arin Ilejay called Lars Ulrich the best metal drummer with the following statement: “In so many ways, Lars really is the best metal drummer,” Arin said. “He doesn’t have the crazy shredding chops that a lot of drummers have, but he has the best stage presence of any drummer. He’s out of his mind, but writes incredible parts for the music. He’s the Ringo Starr of metal.” We think many might disagree with this statement, but each to his own.
EMMURE Drummer, Mark Castillo Quits, Adam Pierce of ALL SHALL PERISH Fills In
Yes, it’s been confirmed that Mark Castillo left Emmure. There was no hair-pulling or name-calling that I can discern. It has also been confirmed that Adam Pierce, drummer of All Shall Perish, was seen filling in for Castillo on June 19th at a gig in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Before everyone gives into wild speculation about the future of All Shall Perish, let’s look at the facts. Hermida is now front man for Suicide Silence. Artusato is touring with his latest project Devil You Know. Ben Orum left to start his own project. That leaves Adam Pierce and Mike Tiner to twiddle their thumbs until Artusato returns. Pierce has toured with Battlecross filling the rather legendary shoes of Shannon Lucas with a finesse that floored me. I saw a post going round on Facebook that Pierce was selling his art (he has a background in graphic design) to the highest bidder. I think Pierce needs to make a living and while Artusato is making his salary, now Pierce is earning his and keeping his name out there. Will Pierce abandon ASP and join Emmure? I don’t know, but last October Pierce was assuring anxious fans at Café 611 that ASP would be back. Much can change in nine months.
MARILYN MANSON’s Russia Tour Bombs
It’s not the kind of bombing you’re thinking though. Marilyn Manson’s June 27th show in Moscow was cancelled just as the band was about to go on due to a bomb threat. Then the Orthodox community protested Manson’s “promotion of sadomasochism” and had the June 29th show in Novosibirsk cancelled as well. This certainly can’t come as surprise given recent events in Russia. I know it’s poor form to punish the populace, but why are our American musicians putting themselves in these predicaments that could turn dangerous? Didn’t he learn from Behemoth (a band from Poland)? Or is that typical American arrogance at play here? Of course he doesn’t give a fuck. He’s Marilyn Manson.
Bill Kelliher of MASTODON Looking to Form Supergroup?
Hot on the heels of Troy Sanders’ supergroup side project, Killer Be Killed (Click for Review), fellow Mastodon member Bill Kelliher is attempting to start a group with Opeth’s Mikael Akerfeldt and In Flames’ Bjorn Gelotte. This should be a very interesting combination if it gets done.
CANNIBAL CORPSE has confirmed a September 16th release date for their thirteenth studio album entitled A Skeletal Domain via Metal Blade Records. Preparation for A Skeletal Domain did not vary significantly from previous efforts. “At the end of the day, we’re still making a death metal record, no matter where it’s being recorded,” relays Webster. Mark Lewis offered a slightly different, modern recording approach, but the band stressed that they could not be more pleased with their previous albums with Rutan, and the door is most definitely open to work with him again in the future. Changing producers is something the band has historically done after every few albums, if only to not get too comfortable.
Cannibal Corpse also tried to step outside of their comfort zone when it came to songwriting and their musical performances. “Consistency is often confused with repetition. We are established with what we do as a band, and we could relax and not push ourselves, but we try to push the envelope. That’s what makes this exciting,” Webster adds. “Anyone who really listens to this album with an open mind will hear that it’s not same-old same-old.” Mark Lewis would concur with Webster’s analysis and even goes a step further by claiming that “there are moments on this record that have never happened in musical history.” (genre: death metal)
