SLAYER Fan Spoofs Matthew McConaughey Lincoln Commercial

By now, most of us who watch the NFL have seen the Lincoln commercial featuring actor Matthew McConaughey.  For most, it is a ridiculous sell out for a man who had one of the best acting performances of his career earlier this year on the HBO series True Detective.  Well now a fan of Slayer has created a spot on spoof of the commercial where he is trying to sell his 1997 Ford Escort so he can afford to go see Slayer.  This video is so well done that the fan either has to be full of crap with regard to not having the money or he has a a friend with a lot of A/V skills who helped him out.  Nonetheless check out the hilarious spoof below.

SLAYER Responds

Tom Araya made the following video response below.  He told the fan not to sell his car.  Araya stated “It’s a piece of shit”.  We’ll just give you the tickets.”  Slayer is providing the fan with two tickets and two VIP passes to the show at The Forum.  Now that’s pretty cool!

LITA FORD Announces New Guitarist

Lita Ford has announced the addition of guitarist Patrick Kennison to her band.  Here is what Ford had to say:

“Patrick Kennison is our latest and greatest addition to Team LITA! He shreds on guitar and is killer at singing backing vocals. He adds so much energy to the already thunderous sound, just another reinforcement that we will be blowing the doors off the place, and killing it in our future recordings.

We are able to bring down the house together with Marty O’Brien jamming on Bass and Bobby Rock behind us bashing the drums, together they are the best of the best musicians, Hollywood California’s finest line up. Welcome Patrick Kennison!!!”

Kennison is also really excited about the opportunity he has been given:

“It’s both an honor and a blast to share the studio and stage with the queen of metal. I attended many Lita Ford concerts as a kid and was always blown away by her guitar playing and take no prisoners approach to the concert stage.”

ENSLAVED: Diary of Madmen – Episode 2

enslaved-diaryOnce again Enslaved is checking in from the studio with an update on their yet to be titled 2015 release.  Here is the full entry:

Checking in from Duper Studios in Bergen, members of Norwegian progressive extreme metallers ENSLAVED offer the second installment in the seven-part “Diary of Mad Men” series shedding insight into the band’s upcoming as-yet-untitled thirteenth studio album, set for an early 2015 release.

“It has been something like 10 months since the first song was written for this album, but it feels like an eternity with all the touring and normal & special shows!” explains ENSLAVED guitarist & composer Ivar Bjørnson. “Now time is back to normal time, and things are going really well from the get-go: Cato [Bekkevold, drummer] laid down something like one-third of the drums for the album just during the first day!”

ENSLAVED drummer Cato Bekkevold adds: “This album is very complex and challenging to record, and I guess the same words will be frequently used both by the critics and the listening audience. But rest assured that it – as always – is 100% pure ENSLAVED.”

Main recordings for the new album are taking place at Duper and Solslottet Studio in Bergen, Norway with additional recordings done at Conclave & Earshot Studios (presided over by ENSLAVED members Larsen and Ice Dale), and Ivar Bjørnson’s Peersonal Sound Studios.

Additional experimentation and sonic exploration will be conducted deep in the woods of Valevåg south of Bergen where the band took a mobile studio to record the infamous “Thorn” 7” single in 2012.

Album number thirteen is being produced by band members Ivar Bjørnson, Grutle Kjellson & Herbrand Larsen together with Iver Sandøy. Mixing will be done by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden.

Artwork will be illustrated by long-time collaborating artist and “sixth ENSLAVED member” Truls Espedal, who has painted all seven album covers since 2001’s Monumension.

A very special hometown show in Bergen, Norway awaits fans on November 1st, where ENSLAVED’s live set will include songs never previously performed in front of an audience, including “Havenless” from 2003’s Below The Lights album.

2012’s studio release, RIITIIR, garnered ENSLAVED a seventh nomination for a Spellemann Award (the Norwegian equivalent of the American Grammy) in the category of “Best Metal Album.” They have won a Spellemann Award four consecutive times for the following four studio albums: Axioma Ethica Odini (2010), Vertebrae (2008), Ruun (2006), and Isa (2004).

DARK TRANQUILLITY Skydancer & Of Chaos And Eternal Night Reissues Out Now!

Dark Tranquillity re-release
Way back in 1993, Dark Tranquillity was a little known band from the town of Gothenburg, Sweden. Nobody knew what Melodic Death Metal was at that time, nor did they really understand what a huge impact this band would have on the world of metal come 1995’s The Gallery.

So here we have the band’s first full length CD, Skydancer, and their EP Of Chaos And Eternal NightSkydancer was the last recorded output to feature vocalist Anders Fridén, later of In Flames, who was replaced by then rhythm guitarist, Mikael Stanne. Incidentally, Mikael Stanne was the lead vocalist on the first In Flames studio album, Lunar Strain.

The album is re-released by Century Media Records as Skydancer & Of Chaos and Eternal NightSkydancer was set to be remastered later in 2013 in celebration of the album’s twentieth anniversary. The band comments:

“As a band, we always want our all our recordings – even the earliest ones – to be available to everyone that’s interested, so we’re please to announced that the re-mastered versions of “Skydancer” (1993) and “Of chaos and eternal night” (1995) now are released as invididual vinyl discs and a joint CD. Those who want to check out where it all begins should look no further.”
