Slayer Guitaritst Jeff Hanneman Passes Away From Liver Failure

by Mike Lawrence on May 2, 2013

Jeff_Hanneman_Slayer_passes_awayAccording to the official Slayer Facebook page, Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman passed away the morning of May 2, 2013 at the age of 49 due to liver failure.  Hanneman was one of the founding members of Slayer and along with Kerry King was one of the main lyrical writers for the band.  Hanneman had been absent from the band since 2011 due to contracting a skin disorder from a spider bite that left him unable to walk for a time.  The band reported that he had recovered in 2012, but then in 2013 he continued to have health problems that kept him from working with Slayer.  It is not yet being reported if the liver failure had anything to do with the skin disorder or spider bite.

Metal Descent would like send our heartfelt condolences to all the guys in Slayer and to the family of Jeff Hanneman.  He was truly one of the greatest guitarists and writers in the history of thrash.
