We’ve been waiting since November, but the details of the acts to appear at Sonisphere 2014 have finally been announced, with three days of bands hitting the stage on July 4th-6th. So far, it has been announced that The Prodigy will headline Friday, Iron Maiden on Saturday, and Metallica (by request) will headline Sunday night at Knebworth, UK. Metallica will allow fans to choose the setlist for this gig, which hopefully will be very different from the fairly static setlist we’re used to.
Other bands included in the lineup are Alice in Chains, Slayer, Mastodon, Ghost B.C., Gojira, and Karnivool. There have been no announcements of what other bands will be playing, but there’s plenty of time for other bands to hit the stage. It can be said with some certainty that there will be no Big Four reunion at Sonisphere this year, with no announcement of Megadeth or Anthrax.
What do you think of this year’s lineup? Who would you like to see added to this bill? Are you surprised by the addition of The Prodigy to Sonisphere, and is it a welcome or unwelcome addition? And, are you willing to shell out the dough to pay for a plane ticket, accommodations, and the ticket price itself? It will run you about $300 USD, or £180 for the weekend tickets alone. Let us know in the comments what you think.
