2013 was an absolutely amazing year for heavy metal.  We got new albums from metal veterans including Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Dream Theater and Queensryche as well as some great stuff from metal’s new school of bands like The Black Dahlia Murder, Battlecross and The Dillinger Escape Plan.  Now we are excited to present you with the First Annual Metal Descent Heavy Metal Music Awards to celebrate and honor the amazing artists and albums of the past year.  Award categories include best albums in each subgenre, best live act, song of the year, album of the year and many more.  We hope you enjoyed 2013 as much as we did so without further adieu, here are the winners:

Must say this looks like a decent list. Battlecross were indeed amazing live and Shade Empire’s Omega Arcane is a masterpiece. But how are Battlecross the Best New Metal Artist when they’ve been around for a good 10 years?
