Man, this was a tough week.  It took a lot of digging to find eight really good songs.  Obviously that means the end of the year is upon us.  Much less stuff gets released around this time.  Things won’t really pick up until the beginning of 2015.  Most of the songs this week come from albums that have already been released or will drop sometime next year.  Thankfully, we were able to dig deep enough and  find some real gems.  Listen and enjoy!

8.  Artist: Red Fang  Song: “Crows in Swine”  Album: Whales and Leeches (2013)  Genre: Doom Metal
Album available HERE

What more can we say?  Red Fang has turned out yet another kick ass animated music video.  This time it’s for the track “Crows in Swine” from their 2013 album, Whales and Leeches.  Not only is the video cool but the riffs are sick too.

#7.  Artist: Dimesland  Song: “Dying Foretold”  Album: Psychogenic Atrophy (Due Out 12/9)  Genre: Progressive Metal

Imagine what it would sound like if you mixed Voivod with Into The Pandemonium era Celtic Frost and you have Oakland’s Dimesland.  The band will be independently releasing their debut album so make sure you give them your support.

#6.  Artist: The German Panzer  Song: “Mr. Nobrain”  Album: Send The All To Hell (Due Out 1/13/15)  Genre: Teutonic Thrash
Preorder the album HERE

This is an excellent song from the new supergroup featuring members of Destruction and Accept.  The band’s debut album is due out in January.  This lyric video pokes fun at various world leaders and figures.

#5.  Artist: Salythia  Song: “Affliction”  Album: Death D’Core EP (Due Out in Feb.)  Genre: Progressive/Thrash

Goddamn these guys can shred.  We absolutely loved the riff, arrangement and harsh vocals.  We could have done without the overly clean vocals in the refrain.  They kind of took away from the song’s overall aggression giving it more of a metalcore feel but no matter. The majority of the song is still spectacular.

#4.  Artist: Cloudkicker  Song: “Push It Way Up”  Album: Live With Intronaut (Due Out 11/25)  Genre: Progressive Metal
Preorder the album HERE

For those of you who have not heard of Cloudkicker, it is a solo project from Ohio native Ben Sharp.  He writes, records, mixes and masters everything himself.  He recently toured with Intronaut where the band played a bunch of his songs live.  This instrumental is one of his best without a doubt.

#3.  Artist: Sahhr  Song: “Slay the Savior”  Album: Sahhr EP (2014)  Genre: Blackened Death Metal/Blackened Thrash

Here’s another amazing track from Sahhr’s debut self-titled EP.  We have already featured the track “Altar of Maggots”.  This time around the band brings a much thrashier and dare we say, catchy, tune.  Make sure you check out the entire EP.  You can grab a copy of it HERE.

#2.  Artist: Rise Of The Northstar  Song: “Phoenix”  Album: Welcame (Due Out 11/25)  Genre: Crossover Thrash
Preorder the album HERE

This is already a highly talked about album and it hasn’t even been released yet.  Welcame is getting major props from the likes of Mille Petrozza of Kreator, Billy Graziadei of Biohazard and Roger Miret of Agnostic Front.  Unfortunately the song we are featuring this week is a bonus track on the Japanese release but it is a great example of their no nonsense, aggressive style.  This particular song definitely brings you back to the hey day of hardcore and crossover.

#1.  Artist: Within Temptation  Song: “Covered By Roses”  Album: Let Us Burn – Elements & Hydra Live in Concert CD/DVD (Due Out 11/24)  Genre: Symphonic Gothic Metal

This is the live version of one of the tracks from Within Temptation’s excellent 2014 album, Hydra.  You can check out our review HERE.  This live incarnation is actually much better than the studio version.  They are surely one of the best live acts around today.

Which of these eight songs is your favorite?  Did we miss any good new songs or videos from the past week?  Sound off in the comments section.
